We Live Out Of Identity
The interconnection of business direction with business culture hinges directly on leadership. Culture reflects the local leader regardless if it’s a multi-million or billion dollar business, a not for profit service organization or worship center, a sports team, or even more personally, your family.
To understand your leadership, you have to understand you. To understand how your business or enterprise is going to flow and or grow, you have to understand you, and understand your leadership and how it impacts and influences outward.
We live out of who we see and believe ourselves to be. Whether what we believe is true or false, rational or irrational, right or wrong. Fundamentally, everything we do and everything we search and strive after, flows out of our identity. As individuals, as families, as leaders, as teams, as companies and other organizations, as communities, as countries.
Not having clarity with identity, skews one’s purpose, one’s vision and how one tackle’s the mission.
With Purpose
The heart and sole of what we each individually long and search for, whether intentionally or unintentionally. As an individual, purpose is what fuels the energy, passion, creativity, innovativeness, work ethic, discipline and pursuit.
As a family, team, company or organization, purpose is what attracts like-minded, like-purposed individuals and allows for greater alignment together to accomplish the vision through mission.
Knowing your purpose as a person or organization, and working and striving toward it on a daily basis brings greater value to you and to the organization. Clarity of purpose offers clarity to the “why” of what you are doing, which fuels you as an individual.
Toward Vision
We long and search for purpose, but we strive toward vision. Without clarity of our identity and purpose, we most often aim wrong or aim far short of what our vision could be. Vision is about seeing what isn’t, and living and working toward it until it is. A great vision, an impactful vision, a transformative vision, flows out of a healthy and true identity and purpose.
Vision is what gives guidance to the mission, to the decision making, to the identification of who you need on your team or organization and who you need to be surrounded with to accomplish what you hope to bring into reality.
Vision keeps you looking forward even in the darkest of days and when what you can’t control simply is out of control or not going the way you think it should. Vision keeps you steady to the destination, even if you have to change or modify the course or direction.
With Mission
Mission is about action. It is the “how we are going to accomplish and get the vision done.” It’s the outward practical application of all of the inward (identity, purpose, vision). Mission defines the process and focus through identity, values, oriented behavior, needs skills, competency, and action. It is goal centered, measurable, and maneuverable.
